Places of Interesft In and Around Dumka

Dumka has many tourist places. The town is rich in historic heritage sites, spiritual places and scenic points. Some of the tourist places in and around Dumka are mentioned below.

Baba Basukinath Dham:
Situated 25 kms from Dumka on Deogarh- Dumka state highway, it is the most popular and main attraction of Dumka. It is a famous hindu piligrimage which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Lacs of people visit temple every year. In the Hindi month of Shravans, special fest if organized called Shravan mela. Special rush could be seen in the temple during this period.

Baba Sumeshwarnath : Located at a distance of around 60Km from Dumka town in Saraiyahat Block, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Festival of MahaShivratri is celebrated with great joy and people from different areas come here to witness the grand celebration.

Naag Mandir :
Dedicated to Naag devata, the temple is located on hilltop of Shiv Pahar at Dumka.

Mayurakshi River :
This 250 Kms long river is the main river of Dumka. The river starts from Trikut Hill.

Famous places in DumkaMassanjore Dam:
Basically a hydro electric power generating center, it has become a major picnic spot. It is located in Massanjore village about 30 kms from Dumka. The dam is located amidst hills and forests, making its surrounding perfect for an ideal picnic. One can also choose to stay in Mayurakshi Bhawan Bungalow and Inspec¬tion Bungalow located in Masanjore village. Masanjor dame or the Pearson dame is built over Mayurakshi river. The main attraction of the place are a beautiful garden on foot of the hills and two Dak-bunglows on the bank of the river.

Tatloi
: Situated at a distance of 15kms from Dumka, Tatloi is a hot water spring. The beauty to this hot spring is added by small mounts and greenish natural atmosphere. The water of the spring is clean and considered healthy.

Malooti : Malooti is one of the complete tourist destination for it has its historical importance, religious importance and has beautiful natural surroundings. It is situated in Shikaripara Block on Dumka Rampurhat interstate highway, 55 kms from Dumka. King Basant Rai alias Basant made it a tax free state in 1860.

Kathikund : Situated on Dumka-Pakur Road it is famous for khadi production and sericulture. The natural surrounding comprising of hills, forests and a river passing between the valleys provide a picturesque view.

Kumrabad : It is located 13 kms from Dumka and is situated on the banks of River Mayurakshi. The place because of its beautiful natural surroundings is another famous tourist spots in Dumka.

Shristi Hill Park : Another famous tourist spot is Shristi Hill Park. The Park is famous for its boating facility, collection of rare plants and view of hills.

Apart from these there are many other religious places like Holy Child Church, Pagla Baba Mandir, Hanuman Mandir, Durga Mandir, Disom Manjhi Than Church, Chota Mandir etc where one would like to visit.

How to Reach Dumka ?

There is a regular bus service from all nearby cities of Dumka like Ranchi, Jamtara, Jamshedpur etc. And hence roadways is one of the best mode of transport to reach this famous city of Jharkhand. Dumka does not have a railway station of its own. The nearest railway station is Jamtara, which is located around 60 kilometres from Dumka. Jamtara is however connected to different cities like like Jamshedpur, Amritsar, Kolkata etc. through railways. From here one can choose to travel by bus or taxi to Dumka. The nearest airport is Ranchi airport, which is at a distance of 241 kilometres from the town. From here one can choose to travel by bus or taxi to Dumka.
